This is my notes for starting a career in Remote Work and Freelancing.

Freelancing or freelancing we already know a few years ago will now start to hype, well there are more and more competitors where competition will be tighter, so we will discuss the potential and strategies for starting remote work.

What’s the potential?

Well, here we will discuss the potential of being a freelancer and what skills we must have, we must understand the challenges we will face, and we will break them down one by one.

Important point?

Here are some important points to consider, such as

  • How to set the rate and price (freelance strategy)
  • How to be a stand out from the crowd (always get clients)
  • Tips (that are rarely discussed)

Here we are going to focus on 2 platforms, Upwork and Fiverr, where which platform is widely used and popular, we are going to discuss in general first so that we can get an idea of what kind of competition in the freelance industry we are going to make this side hustle.

Here’s the data

here we can see that the trends for freelancers will increase from this year to the next few years, so we can conclude that the competition will be tighter and we need to prepare more carefully to face this competition, let’s discuss :)

Freelance Industry
First, we need to know where we are going to be, or we need to know our pool and what challenges we will face.

Freelancer categorization
Here we categorize based on the goals to be achieved and how to get started

  • No skills — no money
  • Some skills — no money
  • Skills and Money

Well, let’s discuss them one by one. Here’s where we are and what we need to do, what we need to prepare for.

No Skill No Money
At this level, you have no choice but to enter the realm of general services, here are remote jobs that require no special skills, “specific skills” where manual work such as copy paste, data entry, and other skills,

What are the opportunities?

Of course, jumping into freelance work is a gateway to freelance work, while adding new skills, it must be noted.

Working here still requires basic skills, such as

  • Translator
  • Subtitling
  • Basic writing
  • Virtual Assistant

where the hourly rate can be said to be low because many people can replace it, then coupled with the emergence of new technologies such as AI (Chat GPT) and the like, we inevitably have to adapt to these developments.

The challenge?

Well, because many can replace it. Then there is a price war and growth is slow,

Skills with money
Before going to the sweet pot, we will first discuss how to sell skills, because here we can analyze how to live in this freelancing, now usually People who are already at this stage already have skills and have sold their skills, we can group them in several points

  • Find a niche
  • Search by JOB Demand
  • Search based on previous work experience

From here on we will discuss the three main points that will be our basis to determine in which pool we will navigate in this world of freelancing.

Find your niche
Some of the most popular freelance platforms are, at this first point we will try to find a niche for the skills we have.

  • upwork.com
  • fiverr.com
  • peopleperhour.com

Upwork

Upwork itself is the world’s largest freelance marketplace where there are many remote JOBs from various fields ranging from software development, management, finance, and many other fields.

Upwork

Fiverr

This platform is crowded in the freelance world, here the way to play is a little different from Upwork, where in Fiverr we create stalls/gigs to offer our services which is very influential with the name SEO and copywriting, and as our strategy is so that our gigs are always on top (on the first page).

Fiverr

PeoplePerHour

PeoplePerHour is an online platform that connects freelancers with clients all over the world.

Types of Jobs:

PeoplePerHour offers a wide variety of freelance jobs in various fields, including

  • Technology & Programming: Web development, mobile app development, software development, graphic development, etc.
  • Writing & Translation: Articles, blogs, copywriting, translation, proofreading, etc.
  • Marketing & Design: Logo design, web design, SEO, social media marketing, etc.
  • Business & Finance: Accounting, bookkeeping, business consulting, virtual assistant, etc.
  • Customer Service: Telemarketing, customer service, live chat, etc.
    Service Presentation:

PeoplePerHour offers several features that make it easy for freelancers and clients to work together:

those are some platforms to start remote work well from here we can start, now how to find niche remote work.

This is where you can decide which pool to dive into by finding a niche based on your skills, using research from the three platforms above.

Search Based on JOB Demand
In this second point, we are going to discuss determining hunting targets or upgrading skills based on job demands that are currently crowded, why is this point number two?

This will be a benchmark for how we start building the skills needed in remote work, now from this there are two points of view

Finding JOBS based on demand for skills you already have
Upgrading skills based on job demand
From here we can determine whether or not we need to upgrade our skills to pursue this freelance opportunity.

Find JOBs based on previous work experience
The last point that I explained was finding jobs based on previous experience, where the experience is not needed in freelance, we need to first research whether our experience is needed in the freelance world or not, such as.

If you have experience as a blog writer, then the demand will be a content writer or a secretary, then it can be a VA, for those who have logo design experience, then it can be a brand identity designer, and so on.

Conclusion

Freelancing offers attractive earning potential. However, the competition is fierce and requires careful preparation and strategy. You can increase your chances of succeeding in the freelance world by understanding the right category to freelance in, using the right platform, and applying these tips.
